1/31/2024 0 Comments System shock remake introThe flyover over the city was fine with the music. I didn't first realize at first but I realized at sub conscious level that something was off. That too I realized was a bit weird when the hacker suddenly knew the credentials. It's probably the sharpest example of sunk cost fallacy in the remake, aside from the engine change, an idea that's pointless and stupid but had loads of man hours invested in it so it stays. And if you want to further talk immersion, let's talk about how the hacker magically knows diego's login credentials, or how he now is forcibly implanted immediately afterward while in the OG he at least had time to make the system analyzer (which now just sort of magically appears in the personal locker). It's absolutely not immersive to flush your toilet while looking for the arcane trigger that will make the scene progress. Originally posted by rane:The intro is definitely ass. After this, a scene of the ship flying to the citadel could be shown, followed by a brief exposition explaining the game's premise. This would give players a taste of the game's mechanics while also advancing the story. Instead of a brief gameplay segment, it would be more impactful to showcase a random hacking cutscene followed by a scene where the guards break in. This would help to establish the game's atmosphere right from the start. It would be great to start the game with a cinematic flyover scene of the darkened city, set to a fitting soundtrack. And the hacking scene is just awful and insulting. Looking back at the old intro it explains more whereas the new intro leaves a lot off despite it being longer. I believe that taking these factors into account could help to improve the overall quality of the game. In comparison, the original System Shock game had a more cohesive and effective intro that explained everything clearly. Furthermore, the depiction of the hacker's 'home' may come across as unprofessional and may not appeal to a wider audience. Additionally, the introductory segment that involves hacking the computer and waiting through a short gameplay period may not be the most effective way to engage players. In my opinion, the grey and orange city visuals do not seem to be aesthetically pleasing and may not be engaging for players. I would like to offer some constructive criticism regarding the visuals and gameplay mechanics of the game.
